Take Back the Night Event in Western PEI
Posted September 13, 2024
PEI Family Violence Prevention Services, Western Region Sports Council, and PEIRSAC have partnered together to host this event on September 24th, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.
The walk will begin and end at the Mill River Curling Club parking lot. Joanne Wallace and her West Prince Walking Group, will lead us down the trail. Please feel free to bring a solar light to place along the walking path to remember a survivor of sexual violence that you know or to just show your support as an ally in the crowd.
The gathering will be addressed at the beginning of the walk by Karen MacCarville – West Prince Outreach Coordinator for PEI FVPS. There will be light refreshments provided after the walk and it is requested that you bring along a source of light, such as a flash light. At 6:00p.m we will begin the evening with a bbq and then will proceed to walk around 6:45. There will be door prizes available to those attending.
If you wish to bring a sign or you wish to do a little chant during the walk feel free to do so but we do consider this to be a peaceful walk. The night is about finding our voices now and in the future and becoming aware of how to be a community of allies going forth to minimize the risk of sexual violence in our West Prince Community.
1 in 3 women , 1 in 6 men, and 2 out of 3 transgender persons, will experience a form of sexual violence in their life time here in Canada . It is time to speak our truth and walk together to create a better tomorrow for generations to come. This is an everyone problem so everyone is welcome to our peaceful event.
