Bedeque Bay Environmental Management Association Education Programs
Posted April 5, 2024
BBEMA is thrilled to reintroduce our educational programs to schools in our watershed! Our programs offer hands-on learning experiences directly aligned with curriculum requirements, providing students with unique opportunities to gain practical knowledge and skills in the environmental field.
Educational programs
– River-to-the-Sea Program (Grade 6 to 12) (May to June, or September to October)
-
- River to the Sea program connects students with their local ocean environment. Through beach visits and seine net demonstrations, students observe and learn about various fish species, their significance, and their habitats.
– Adopt-a-Pond or Adopt-a-River (Grade 6 to 12) (May to June, or September to October)
-
- The Adopt-a-River program educates children about water chemistry, pollution, groundwater, and the diverse species within river/stream systems, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation. The program comprises two parts: a 2-hour field day at Arsenault’s Pond or Scales Pond and a 1-hour in-class lab session focused on sorting macroinvertebrates.
– BBEMA Frog Friends (Grade 2 to 8) (May to June)
-
- Students will conduct a site ecosystem health assessment, monitoring water quality, identifying macroinvertebrates, and collecting amphibian eggs for classroom raising. Upon hatching, the amphibians will return to their original wetland habitat.
