What is Kotlin? Kotlin is a modern programming language that makes writing code easier and more fun. It’s kind of like a smoother, more efficient version of Java, which is one of the most widely used programming languages. Kotlin is important because it helps developers write cleaner, safer code faster. Plus, it works seamlessly with Java, so you can use it alongside your existing Java projects without any hassle. It’s especially popular for building Android apps, but it can be used for all sorts of software development projects.

Topics include:
  • Environment Setup and Kotlin Fundamentals
  • Object-Oriented Programming in Kotlin
  • Basics of Android Development
  • Advanced Android UI and Jetpack Compose
  • Working with Firebase
  • Consuming REST APIs
  • Capstone Project

To be eligible, applicants MUST:

  • Have prior programming/coding knowledge or experience. This is an intensive course so foundational/prior programming or coding knowledge is essential for selection.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Be over the age of 18
  • Have secondary school completed
  • Situation of unemployment or underemployment
  • Not currently enrolled in college, university or a paid training program.
  • Demonstrate motivation and dedication. Attendance is recorded and mandatory for the program.
  • Time commitment. While the class is part-time, substantial time outside of classes is needed for exercises, deliverables and project work.
