ElderDog PEI’S “Pawd in the Park” Returns to Charlottetown’s Victoria Park

Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm

Following the success of its 2024 event, ElderDog PEI is returning to the Cultural Pavilion at Victoria Park on Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm to host “Pawd in the Park”, a popular public awareness and community outreach event.

The PEI “Pawd” is the provincial branch of ElderDog Canada Inc. a national, community-based, non-profit organization with a mission to assist and support older adults in the care and well-being of their canine companions. It also provides care and companionship for older dogs who come into the permanent care of the organization and educates people on the role of companion animals in the health and well-being of seniors.

This non-profit volunteer organization has operated on PEI since 2014, offering programs which include dog care support services like dog walking, foster care, and adoption of older dogs.  It also offers long-term care planning for companion dogs, public education, and bereavement support.

“We were thrilled by the turnout for last year’s Pawd in the Park, our first since 2018,” explains PEI Pawd Volunteer Coordinator, Sydney Gillis. “Everything we do is 100% volunteer-driven and provided at no cost, so it’s especially important for us to continue recruiting new team members and to help folks become aware of our programs and services so we can get those volunteers busy at what they love doing best – helping seniors and senior dogs. We also want to celebrate those businesses and services that are working hard to benefit animal welfare on PEI. Better-informed pet owners provide better care for their pets! ”

All activities will take place in and around the Victoria Park Cultural Pavilion in Charlottetown, at 36 Victoria Park Driveway.

Pawd in the Park is a free-admission, family-friendly event filled with activities for dogs and dog lovers of all ages,” says planning team member and Pawd Treasurer Kim Johnstone. “Attendees will be able to chat with ElderDog volunteers about our programs, listen to presentations about dog health and welfare,  and stop by exhibitors’ booths.  Visitors can also have a by-donation electronic pet portrait photograph taken in a beautiful Fall-themed setting.  We’ll even have prizes for fun activities like our Pet/Person Look-A-Like Contest.”

Event organizers advise that on-leash pets are welcome to attend; however, in keeping with ElderDog’s positive-behaviour training policies, owners are asked to leave shock, pinch, or electronic training devices at home. ElderDog PEI volunteers will also be providing yellow ribbons to owners to help identify dogs that are anxious or not comfortable socializing with other animals.

ElderDog Canada is a registered, non-profit organization with its national office located in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
